ABOUT Anna

Anna Kuzmina is a Russian-Ukranian creative director, photographer, and filmmaker based in Brooklyn. Growing up she developed a passion for fashion as a result of often helping her mother with her boutique store. After completing her visual art education she moved to New York to pursue photography.

One day, meeting a hip-hop dance company she was mesmerized by the raw expression of movements and meaningful storytelling. After accepting the invitation to train with the company, she became both a dancer and a photographer/videographer working with them for over a decade. Anna studied choreography, dance anthropology, kinesiology, biomechanics, and theater production.

Her amazing commitment earned her the role of "Maleficent" in a hip-hop dance rendition of "Sleeping Beauty". She has become an advocate and supporter of the dance community, leading a pro-bono headshot event for dancers three times a year servicing over 250 dancers. Anna has been an official photographer for The Bessies Awards for over a decade. Her dance photographs have been featured in the New York Times and Dance Magazine. Anna has also taught at the Joffrey Ballet School, educating dancers on how to capture movement on camera.

Today, when Anna is not on the red carpet at the Met Gala and Afropunk, she loves working with fashion brands. She is also focusing on creating films that combine documentary, fiction, and dance. Anya merges her fine art education, her movement study, and her filmmaking aesthetic to achieve unique style in her projects.
